Katsura Hoshino is the creator and writer behind the series D,Gray-man. I have been reading and rereading the series for the last six to seven years and have found the storyline unendingly intriguing and the development of her art style beautiful. Hoshino has had both wrist injuries and carpal tunnel for the last few years, but has still been releasing chapters of D,Gray-man once every three months.

This is the cover for her most recently released chapter, chapter 242 Saying Goodbye to Allen Walker: Red and Mana. I have always loved the way Hoshino uses color. Everyone of her colored pieces are very unified and create emotion just through the value on colors she choses.

This is an average page within the series. Hoshino puts in massive amounts of work to build complete settings around all of her scenes. Many manga artists focus on the characters more than the background and tend to leave some things flat, my guess because they know that once the pages are printed they will be small enough that no one will notice and to save time in the long run. In japan the size of a manga book is 5 in. x 7 in. so that top right panel of the page here is about 3 in. x 2 in. which is pretty small. Hoshino's attention to detail is one of the many reasons I have enjoyed the series for so long, she inspires me to pay closer attention to what is going on and to go the extra mile in every piece.
